Freezers: upright, chest and built-in models
Freezers keep food for long periods, preserving its quality and nutritional value while reducing food waste. Modern models combine energy efficiency, stable temperatures and generous capacity.
1Store.lv offers freezers from Berk and Gorenje and other brands, with real availability in our warehouse in Riga.
Types of freezer
- Upright freezers (cabinet type): easy organisation with drawers and shelves.
- Chest freezers: maximum capacity and better cold retention.
- Built-in freezers: for integration into kitchen units.
- Compact models: for extra storage or smaller spaces.
Upright or chest freezer?
An upright freezer gives easy access and a better overview of what is stored.
A chest model is usually more energy-efficient and holds the cold longer during a power cut.
The choice depends on the space available, your habits and how much food you store.
No Frost or static cooling?
No Frost technology prevents ice build-up and circulates the cold evenly, with no manual defrosting.
Static systems are simpler and often cheaper to buy, but they may need defrosting from time to time.
The most important features
- Super Freeze (fast freezing)
- Stable temperature control
- High freezing capacity (kg/24h)
- Long cold retention during a power cut
- Temperature warning alarms
Capacity and dimensions
- Up to 150 l: for small households
- 200-300 l: for families
- 300 l+: for long-term stocks
- Standard width of 55-60 cm for upright models
It is worth choosing a little more capacity than you need today, especially if you regularly stock up on food.
What are you paying for?
- More stable temperature control
- A more efficient compressor
- Lower electricity consumption
- Longer cold retention
- Better internal organisation
More expensive models often mean lower running costs and greater reliability over the long term.
Energy efficiency and running costs
Modern freezers are fitted with energy-efficient compressors. Differences in annual electricity consumption can be significant, especially on large models.
Choosing an energy-efficient model can reduce your long-term costs.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a freezer stay cold without electricity?
Depending on the model: from 12 to 40+ hours. Chest freezers usually hold the cold longer.
Is No Frost essential?
It is not essential, but it considerably reduces the maintenance required and keeps the temperature more even.
How do I work out the right capacity?
As a rule of thumb, allow 50-70 litres per person in the household.
