Built-in refrigerators provide a unified kitchen design and integrate into the furniture façade. They are available in various heights and configurations and with different cooling systems: from classic ones to full No Frost.

Formats and heights: under the worktop or in a column
Built-in refrigerators generally fall into two main types:
- Under the worktop (~82 cm): for compact kitchens or for additional cooling.
- Column-type models: 122 cm, 140 cm, 178 cm (the standard) and 190–200+ cm for greater capacity.
In recent years 190+ cm models have become increasingly popular, because they provide a larger usable volume while keeping the aesthetics of built-in appliances.
Combined, separate and Side-by-Side solutions
Both combined fridge-freezers and separate refrigerators and freezers are available. They can be installed next to each other, creating a visual Side-by-Side effect with greater capacity.
Fully built-in Side-by-Side models (in the premium segment, for example) are rarer and are intended for spacious kitchens.
No Frost, Low Frost or static cooling?
- Static (capillary) system: the more economical choice.
- Low Frost: reduces ice build-up.
- No Frost / Full No Frost: prevents ice from forming and provides a more even temperature.
The No Frost system makes cleaning easier and keeps food more stable in storage, especially in the freezer section.
Volume and the right choice for a family
For a family of four or more, a standard 178 cm model may be limited in capacity. If the kitchen layout allows, we recommend considering a 190+ cm model or a combination of two separate appliances.
Built-in refrigerators provide an attractive design, but their usable volume is usually more compact than that of freestanding models of a similar size.
A Door-on-Door or a Sliding Door system?
The method of installation affects both durability and everyday convenience:
- Sliding Door: the façade moves on rails; more often found in the budget segment.
- Door-on-Door: the façade is fixed directly to the refrigerator door; the construction is more rigid and is usually considered the premium solution.
The choice often depends on the construction of the kitchen furniture and on long-term operating requirements.
Energy efficiency, noise level and additional functions
- Energy efficiency class: important, because a refrigerator runs 24/7.
- Noise level: significant in open-plan kitchens.
- Freshness zones (0°C / BioFresh / VitaFresh): for storing food for longer.
- Fast freezing and fast cooling
- An open-door alarm and a holiday mode
Correct installation and ventilation are essential for the appliance to run efficiently and quietly over the long term.
