How to choose an Electrolux hob: type, width and features
Here are all our Electrolux built-in hobs: induction, ceramic, gas and gas-electric. Most are 60 cm induction hobs, and there are 80 cm models for larger kitchens. Below is a short guide to the types and Electrolux features.
Popular choices
SaphirMatt hobs
Matte, scratch-resistant glass: fewer visible scratches and fingerprints.
Hob2Hood hobs and hoods
The hood switches on by itself when you start cooking on the hob.
All induction hobs
Compare Electrolux with AEG, Bosch and other brands.
Electrolux ovens
With SteamBake and SteamCrisp, also with pyrolytic cleaning.
Hobs with integrated extractor
Hob and extractor in one, no hood above the hob needed.
Induction, ceramic or gas
| Type | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Induction | Heats the pan itself, the surface stays cooler | Fast cooking; needs magnetic cookware |
| Ceramic | A heating element under the glass heats up | Any flat-bottomed cookware |
| Gas | Open flame | Kitchens with a gas supply |
According to Electrolux, an induction hob uses up to 18% less energy than a ceramic hob (manufacturer test, boiling 1.5 l of water). Induction needs cookware with a magnetic base: if a magnet sticks, the pan works.
Electrolux features in everyday use
- SaphirMatt. Matte black glass-ceramic that resists scratches better than standard glass. Clean it with the cleaner the manufacturer recommends; standard cream cleaners do not suit the matte surface.
- Hob2Hood. The hob uses an infrared signal to switch on the hood fan and light and adjust the speed while you cook. Both appliances need Hob2Hood.
- SenseBoil. Detects when water starts to boil and lowers the power so nothing boils over.
- Bridge. Joins two zones into one for a large pan or griddle.
- PowerBoost. Briefly raises a zone's power for fast boiling.
Features differ by model: each model page lists them, and all SaphirMatt and Hob2Hood models are gathered on separate pages (links above).
Width and installation
A 60 cm hob fits a standard cabinet; an 80 cm hob needs a wider worktop. The cut-out size differs by model, so compare it with the specifications before buying. An induction hob usually needs a 32 A or three-phase connection, which an electrician should check.

Frequently asked questions
What is SaphirMatt?
Electrolux and AEG matte glass for hobs: more scratch-resistant and less reflective. All models with this glass are on the SaphirMatt hobs page.
How does Hob2Hood work?
The hob controls the hood with an infrared signal: the fan and light switch on by themselves. Both appliances need the function, and on the hood it usually has to be activated as described in the manual. See Hob2Hood hobs and hoods.
Do I need new pans for induction?
Only if your current ones have no magnetic base. Test with a magnet: if it sticks to the base, the pan works.
Are AEG and Electrolux hobs similar?
Both brands belong to Electrolux Group and share many features. Compare: AEG hobs.
